Enchanted forest

In folklore and fantasy, an enchanted forest is a forest under, or containing, enchantments. Such forests are described in the oldest folklore from regions where forests are common and occur throughout the centuries to modern works of fantasy. They represent places unknown to the characters, and situations of liminality and transformation. The forest can feature as a place of threatening danger, or one of refuge, or a chance at adventure, and in many cases all three.

Enchanted Forest is a seasonal theme park located in Turner, Oregon, United States, 7 miles (11 km) south of Salem. Situated on a patch of hilly wooded land next to Interstate 5, the park was created and hand-built by Roger Tofte over a period of seven years in the late 1960s, and first opened to the public in 1971. Early success led to many expansions over the last half-century, mostly built again by Tofte by hand.

Forest

A forest is an ecosystem characterized by a dense community of trees. Hundreds of definitions of forest are used throughout the world, incorporating factors such as tree density, tree height, land use, legal standing, and ecological function. The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) defines a forest as, "Land spanning more than 0.5 hectares with trees higher than 5 meters and a canopy cover of more than 10 percent, or trees able to reach these thresholds in situ. It does not include land that is predominantly under agricultural or urban use." Using this definition, Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025 found that forests covered 4.14 billion hectares, or approximately 31 percent of the world's land area in 2025.
