Transcendence

Transcendental number

In mathematics, a transcendental number is a real or complex number that is not algebraic: that is, not the root of a non-zero polynomial with integer coefficients. The best-known transcendental numbers are π and e. The quality of a number being transcendental is called transcendence.

Algebraic element

In mathematics, if A is an associative algebra over K, then an element a of A is an algebraic element over K, or just algebraic over K, if there exists some non-zero polynomial with coefficients in K such that g(a) = 0. Elements of A that are not algebraic over K are transcendental over K. A special case of an associative algebra over is an extension field of . If all elements of are algebraic over , then is called an algebraic extension.

Transcendence (2014 film)

The film stars Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy and Cole Hauser, and follows a group of scientists who race to finish an artificial intelligence project while being targeted by a radical anti-technology organization.

Transcendence (religion)

In religion, transcendence is the aspect of existence that is completely independent of the material universe, beyond all known physical laws. This is related to the nature and power of deities as well as other spiritual or supernatural beings and forces. This is contrasted with immanence, where a god is said to be fully present in the physical world and thus accessible to creatures in various ways. In religious experience, transcendence is a state of being that has overcome the limitations of physical existence, and by some definitions, has also become independent of it. This is typically manifested in prayer, rituals, meditation, psychedelics and paranormal visions.
